Making Use of an Alternative MethodYou might not always be able to use or have access to a squat rack. There are a couple of alternatives you can consider using to help you perform you squat lifts. You still need something that will give you the weight and the protection you need while doing your weightlifting. First is the traditional power rack which you should be able to find in most training facilities. The power rack is a vital piece of equipment if you wish to do your squat lifts, bench presses or any other type of exercise requiring lifting heavy barbells safely. The next option is the squat stand which is used for exercises such as the front squat lift. It does not have the stability or safety pins the power rack has and can apparently fall over quite easily. The squat stand is very similar to two sawhorses, which are four feet apart and are connected at the base by a heavy cross-bar.
